Deb has always had an artistic soul.
From painting funky birds on rocks as a young child to her current
line of "eco wear" - dyed fabrics using natural dye materials, she’s always had a passion
for creating beautiful things.
She studied studio arts in college – painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles – and loved it all. She discovered, however, her passion was art history – everything from Byzantine mosaics to textiles fascinated her but it was Japanese art that really captured her attention. After receiving her Master’s degree in Asian Art History with a specialty in Japanese art she was off to visit Japan to see first hand all the beautiful art she had read about. Her love of Japanese textiles drove her to study various traditional Japanese weaving and dyeing techniques and she became well known for her painted-warp woven tapestries. She participated in many juried art exhibitions and won an award with one of her tapestries. Her initial plan was to stay in Japan for one year, however, she soon found that there was way too much to see and do (and eat). Thirteen years later Deb returned to the United States.
Deb now lives in Lamoine, Maine with her husband and dogs. She is totally inspired by the ever changing beauty of the colorful land around her -- the deep blues of a midnight sky or the shimmering waves dancing along the shore in the moonlight. In her work you can catch glimpses of the places she has visited and the people she has met along the way. And her journey continues!
